93% Of You Won't Care About This Post...

What the hell is it with this spate of posts on Facebook on LJ letting us to post certain comments which instruct others to post the same comments if we care about telling us that "93%" of people will ignore this, leaving on 7% of us who will be "good people" and post about the same thing, there by showing that they care more than the other, heartless 93% of us.

Not that I'm belittling these , which are usually very worhty of our attention, or those who seek to draw attention to them, but where the hell did this figure of 93% ignore-ation (it's a word, look it up) come from? Has there actually been a study conducted that showed that only 7% of people care enough to spend a couple of minutes of their time drawing attention to these things? Or was it a different study that discovered only 7% of people think writing this down will make any difference, or that they have the time to wasting doing so?

Or is it just a number somebody made up to try to poke at our middle class guilt, which is now just copied and pasted, willy nilly, into Web 2.0?
